Relationship between Furuichi Elementary School and volleyball

Mr. Chikara Yorizane, who served as a teacher and principal of Furuichi Elementary School for a long time before and after World War II, recommended volleyball for the healthy development of children's minds and bodies. In 1933, when Furuichi Elementary School was called "Oumei Elementary School", the "Asa County Ball Tournament" was started, and it continues as the "Hiroshima City Boys and Girls Volleyball Festival" at our school.
Mr. Yorizane's students formed the "Oumei Club" based on the youth group, and after graduating, they continued to play volleyball, winning four consecutive championships at the National Sports Festival and the Japan Championships for two years from 1968~1969, and became famous throughout the country. From these community-wide initiatives, many famous players have been born, including Mr.Katsutoshi Nekota, who has been active in the Olympics and World Championships and has been praised as "the world's best setter."
　In one corner of the school grounds, there is a "Traditional Honoring Garden" that honors the achievements of Mr. Yorizane and the players.

６年生が、総合的な学習の時間「古市の未来学」の活動をしています。
古市をもっとよい街にするために、児童一人一人が課題を見付け、その解決のために取り組んでいます。
今回は、「古市には外国の方も多く住まれているため、そうした方々にも優しい説明が増えたほうがよい。」という思いをもった児童が、学校のホームページに英語のページを作りました。
