Furuichi Elementary School District is a district with about 4,000 households and a population of about 8,700. Since ancient times, it has been a key point of transportation between east and west and north and south, so it is said that the name of Furuichi originated from the fact that people and goods gathered to form a "market". In particular, since the early modern period, the development of the Unishi Highway that passes through the center of the village has progressed, and with the development of shipping using the Furukawa River, it has developed as a hemp production area and a gathering place, and from the Meiji era to the Taisho era, it is also a district known nationwide as "Hemp Town, Furuichi". Along the highway, it flourished as a shopping street, and the emerging area has become a residential area for people who work for government offices and companies in the suburbs, including the former Hiroshima city.
National Highway 54 runs north-south in the center of the district, the JR Kabe Line runs north-south on the west side, and the Astram Line also runs on the north side of the district.
In March of Showa 48, it was merged with Hiroshima City, and in April of Showa 55, when the ward administration was established as an ordinance-designated city, a ward office was also established, and it became the central district of Asa Minami Ward in both name and reality.
The Furuichi Elementary School District was separated from Omachi Elementary School and Nakasuji Elementary School in Showa 47 and Showa 52 on the JR Kabe Line and Furukawa, respectively, and continues to this day.

６年生が、総合的な学習の時間「古市の未来学」の活動をしています。
古市をもっとよい街にするために、児童一人一人が課題を見付け、その解決のために取り組んでいます。
今回は、「古市には外国の方も多く住まれているため、そうした方々にも優しい説明が増えたほうがよい。」という思いをもった児童が、学校のホームページに英語のページを作りました。
